The Fear of Striking Out

Let’s talk about something that paralyzes even the most brilliant minds: the fear of striking out.

If I asked you to write a blog post, create a video, or share your thoughts publicly, how many of you would respond with:

“I don’t know what to say.”

“I’m not good with words.”

“What if it’s not any good?”

Sound familiar?

It should—because we’ve all been there. Myself included.

Somewhere along the way, we started believing there’s a secret formula for creating content, that only “experts” can write, speak, or share ideas effectively. We tell ourselves that great authors were born with magical storytelling genes or that thought leaders just woke up one day and suddenly were thought leaders.

But here’s the truth: There’s no magic formula. There’s just showing up.

Let’s take a detour to baseball for a moment.

Even if you’re not a fan, you’ve probably heard of Babe Ruth. One of the greatest players in the history of the sport. His career batting average? .342.

That means he didn’t get a hit 66% of the time.

Think about that. The guy is in the Hall of Fame, a legend, because he succeeded just a third of the time. And yet, when it comes to creating content, sharing ideas, or expressing ourselves, we expect nothing less than perfection.

We expect to hit a home run every single time—or we don’t even step up to the plate.

Here’s the reality: You can’t hit a home run if you never take a swing.

For every bestselling book, there are drafts that never made it past page 10. For every viral video, there are dozens that fell flat. The difference between creators and non-creators isn’t talent—it’s the willingness to try, to fail, and to try again.

Yes, some ideas will flop.

Yes, some stories won’t resonate.

But the only way to find the ones that do is to keep creating.

At UnleashU, we believe work isn’t about perfection—it’s about progress. Your efforts, your experiences, your learnings—they matter. You don’t need to ship a perfect version 1.0, but you do need to ship version 1.0. Without version 1.0, there won’t be v1.1 or v2.0 and so on.

So, the next time fear whispers, “What if it’s not good enough?”

Answer back with, “What if it is?”

What if your idea sparks a conversation?

What if your product resonates with the right audience?

What if your service makes an impact?

Here’s what I know for sure:

Your batting average will always be zero if you never step up to the plate.

So step up.

Share your ideas.

Tell your story.

Because even if you strike out, you’re still in the game.

And every swing gets you closer to that home run.
